Eastern North Carolina’s two major medical institutions are set to renew their affiliation for providing health care and professional training for another 20 years.
Vidant Medical Center in Greenville and the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University presented their affiliation agreement on Tuesday to the Vidant Health board of directors. The agreement is the product of more than a year of review and discussion by a joint committee comprised of representatives from ECU and Vidant.
The agreement, which will take effect in 2014, will be the third between the hospital and medical school since 1975, Dr. Ernest Larkin, senior adviser for medical affairs at Vidant Health and assistant dean for operations at Brody, said. Larkin presented a brief history of the medical center and school, then reviewed the new agreement with the board members.
