One man died and another was injured about 6:40 p.m. Tuesday in a two-car crash on U.S. 13 at Frog Level Road in Winterville, according to the State Highway Patrol.

A 48-year-old man from Snow Hill driving a Ford Tempo died after he failed to yield at a stopsign on Frog Level Road the patrol reported. The Tempo was struck in the passenger side by a Chevy Blazer driving on U.S. 13. at 50 mph.

The Blazer driver, Moses Barrett Jr. of Farmville, 58, was transported to Pitt County Memorial Hospital. He was driving about 50 mph when the Tempo pulled in front of him, the highway patrol reported

Barrett was wearing a seatbelt. The patrol was unable to determine if the other man was wearing a seat belt.

Emergency personnel from Bell Arthur, Winterville and Red Oak responded. An EastCare helicopter dispatched to the scene had to cancel its flight because of weather conditions.

No alcohol or drugs are suspected in the wreck.

I travel the back roads to work and you would not believe the people who do not STOP for stop signs period. STOP does not mean slow down no matter where you are driving.

This is a horrible tragedy and I pray for the family of the tempo driver and the blazer driver. This is such a dangerous rode and I'm glad I don't have to drive it anymore....Remember folks we don't yield at a stop sign, we stop!!!Our lives are too precious.

That area has become very congested with the work they are doing in that area. I came through that area the other morning and needed to go right but there was an 18 wheeler unloading something. I had to go to the stop sign to take a right. This is a very busy area in the morning and afternoon. Please be careful if you travel this area.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of both that were involved in this accident.
