Dorothée Alsentzer, formerly of Greenville, recently received the Positive Leadership Award from the National Association of People with AIDS. She received the award during AIDS Watch, a federal grassroots HIV/AIDS advocacy event held in Washington, D.C.

Alsentzer is a senior clinical fellow at the Health Law and Policy Clinic at Harvard Law School's WilmerHale Legal Services Center. Her portfolio at the clinic includes federal health care reform implementation, research efforts for the State Healthcare Access Research Project in South Carolina and Louisiana, and supervision of law student work. She is the daughter of Ulrich and Mary Alsentzer of Greenville.

“I am deeply honored to receive this award and to have had the opportunity to work with veteran advocates in the HIV/AIDS community this past year to ensure that federal health care reform included measures that will increase affordable access to comprehensive, quality care and treatment for people living with HIV and AIDS,” she said. “It is humbling to stand among giants in the field at such an important moment in time.”
