An effort to alter the policy appointing members of the public to boards and commissions was postponed until next month during Monday's Greenville City Council meeting.
Councilman Max Joyner Jr. wants every council member, on a rotating basis, to nominate people to three particular boards — the Board of Adjustment, the Planning and Zoning Commission, and the Recreation and Parks Commission.
Under the current system, the mayor appoints one City Council member liaison to each of the 20 boards at the start of his or her two-year term. Those liaisons nominate people to their assigned boards, and those nominations are voted on by the entire City Council for approval or denial.
