Thank you for publishing David Schmidt's Dec. 4 letter titled "The church of global warming." I appreciated his candor relative to his feelings that, "True believers in global warming talk as if the earth itself, like a god, will punish humanity for our sins." Like Schmidt, I hate to see other people impose their lifestyle on me, unless it is to comply with a well reasoned, valid majority viewpoint.
It is unlikely that there will be universal consensus on the reality, cause and solutions for global warming within our lifetime. It is a too inconvenient truth, which is sneaking up on us.
I encourage readers to purchase a copy of Time magazine's "Global Warming," which is available in bookstores and many grocery stores in town. It lists the causes, perils, solutions and the actions we can undertake in a readable magazine style. It just might be the best $10 Christmas gift you can give this year.
Then if you want to learn more from local scientists, start off by coming to Stan Riggs' presentation at the Sierra Club meeting on Jan. 14 at 7.30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at 131 Oakmont Drive. It's free and there will be no collection plate in this particular "church of global warming."
