Letter: Consider race relations when voting

5 Comments | Leave a Comment

When thinking about who to vote for in the upcoming Greenville City Council election, it seems to me important to consider the issue of race relations in the eastern part of North Carolina and, specifically, Greenville.

There are reasons why Section 5 of the federal Voting Rights Act requires that Pitt County and most of the counties in the southern United States abide by guidelines that attempt to optimize the opportunity for historically disenfranchised Americans to be represented by someone who can truly protect the interests of African-Americans, Latinos, Asians, Native Americans and other people of color.

One reason was reflected in a letter printed in the Nov. 1 paper. Former professor Carroll Webber is a thoughtful friend whom I often agree with. He was tentative about his endorsements and even admitted to “many gaps of knowledge.”

Racism

Racism is voting for some one based on their skin color and not their ability to lead. Look at what happened with the current President.

Racism is keeping the R word in the fore front when it is not necessary.

The most Racist people I know are always using the R card to try and get attention. People are tired of hearing the R word everytime something happens.

You can only cry Wolf so many times before the people stop responding.

Quit using R words as an excuse for shortcomings.

But Glover votes on city-wide issues...

Time and again I have seen Glover vote against issues in districts other than her own while, in the same meeting, take a different position when it is her district. She is not fair and impartial. It is appropriate for whites to take a position on how people vote in District 2 even if they don't live there because the District 2 representative votes on policies that affect us all.

This kind of thinking is

This kind of thinking is convoluted,at best. Believe it or not,for most people, except for the most narrow minded like YOU,race does not consume their every thought. The more the race card is played by your ilk,the more people see how foolish and single minded you are. Get a life based on reality.

agree

When you know what is going to come out of Don's mouth, you know he is as racist as it comes.
