Fitzsimon: Session ends, embellishment begins

The legislative session is over and that means lawmakers, particularly members of the Republican majority, are busy misleading voters about what was actually “accomplished” in the last two years in the General Assembly.

The most common distortion remains the claim that lawmakers passed a small business tax cut when in reality the tax break is going to many millionaires too. Capping the tax cut so only small businesses would receive it would have saved $140 million that could have reduced the massive cuts to public schools and funded the long overdue compensation for the survivors of the state’s horrific eugenics program.

Republican legislative leaders refused to even allow a vote on capping the tax cut, which they continue to refer to as a break for small business.
