Letter: President's attitude toward Fox News scary

Tuesday, November 03, 2009

This latest attempt of President Barack Obama to attack a major news organization by attempting to ostracize Fox News from an interview while allowing the rest of the media access is one of the most frightening moves he's made yet and should be ringing bells and whistles of alarm for freedom of press and freedom of speech.

This act is akin to what a dictator in Venezuela or Cuba would do: keep your constituents ignorant of information and protect power.

While I have a certain amount of respect for the rest of the media for insisting that Fox be given access to the interview, I suspect there was a certain amount of self-preservation knowing, under certain circumstances, they could be next.

Apparently, even some of those who are in bed with Obama are not yet ready for this kind of political posturing. I pray they never will be.

This was an unwise move for Obama and his cronies, who claimed that Fox isn't really a news network but an opinion network, and thus should not be allowed selected, pertinent information of White House choosing. Rahm Emanuel, chief of staff, warned the other networks not to be led by the Fox network. Scary stuff.

Fox News keeps the public apprised of what's really happening. When those in the White House are gone, the media will still be here, hopefully still able to do what they should do: Report the truth, regardless of ow unpopular it might be with our leaders.

Fair and Balanced? Check out a comparison of FOX's coverage of Tea Party and anti-war protests. Quite a difference, n'est pas? FOX is a joke, and most people know that.

A legitimate news channel does not promote protests, PERIOD. Watch FOX all you like, but don't pretend it's legitimate news.

People like Glenn Beck are dangerous because they only care about ratings and money, have no professional integrity or education relevant to what they are talking about, and make a career from conspiracy theories. If you choose to get your "news" from him, I feel truly sad for you.

I assure you, truly educated people would never watch Glenn Beck for any other reason than entertainment. And for someone to say FOX didn't organize the big Tea Party event, we can clearly see otherwise by watching the channel. In fact, here's a FOX producer telling the tea partiers when to cheer, for God sake: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFCBeKcd-Wk

I'm starting to think that more more educated (or just plain aware) you are, the more likely you are to be an independent! Lou Dobbs quoted some figures on CNN last night that showed the ranks of independents are swelling, at the expense of both the Dems and the Repubs. I'm tired of both parties, quite frankly.

MSNBC is the most biased 24 hour cable news network there is....except for Fox News. I watch both, watching Fox right now. Just one thing, I agree with the sentiments of MSNBC, and think Fixed News is offensive to my sensibilities. I watch it like I would enjoy castor oil. So I relate to those who think Fox speaks for them, I just don't agree with their politics.

just watching rachel maddow on msnbc. now there's an open-minded, unopionated commentator/news reporter. sooner or later, even the gov run media may become dis-enchanted with the real obama. people are awakening to the middle of the road obama campaigner and the far left radical president. there's a reason why fox leads---people want to hear the truth.

Obama and other democrats always try to discredit republicans or FOX News when they hit the nail on the head about the Obama administration. Obama's camp is like a dictatorship. They don't want anyone showing their sins.....if they do they will be punished. Does this not sound like a dictorship to you?????

You are certainly an arrogant piece of work. How dare you declare all Fox viewers as uneducated and unable to distinquish the truth? When we get to the end of Obama's four years, I just hope we still have a country worth fighting for, and that we have not lost all our freedoms of expression. The real problem is, news or not, Fox is the only station not afraid to stand up to your "little Hitler".

One thing Fox has done that a news organization shouldn't do is organize and hold anti-government rallies. That's going way beyond what an objective news organization is supposed to do. They're supposed to report on the happenings of the day, not cause them.

WOW mel! Less educated and can't discern lies and propaganda? That's what you think of FOX viewers? How bout Charlie Gibson denying any knowledge of the ACORN scandal over a week after the news was broken on FOX and others? Obama's sins will "FIND HIM OUT" and Americans will suffer for his lack of leadership.

My first comment doesn't seem to be posting. But the bottom line is that FOX isn't just opinion (even in their objective news shows) but that they intentionally lie. It's the lying that really makes them not legitimate as a news source of any kind. MSNBC is lefty, but they don't get away with lying. I think fans of FOX tend to have less education and can't discern lies and propaganda, and FOX takes advantage of that fact.

The fact that obama attacked Fox News says more about the other networks than it does about Fox.

Make that, "newspaper". Of course, people watch the network, I even do, at least enough to know the extent of the propaganda they spew. People would also watch public executions and train wrecks live on TV, if they were televised. Remember, even Jerry Springer was "popular", by ratings standards, for the first 10 years. They are on the same level, intellectually speaking. Hannity and Beck are egoist jokes, and the rest are hard to take seriously.

You have every right to advocate for Faux News, just as sane level headed Americans can point out that they are merely a mouthpiece for the RNC, with the head honcho, Roger Ailes, being Nixon's former chief media advisor. Fox News is as much a "news organization" as the National Enquirer is a newsparer.
