I would like to thank everyone who came out to the Greenville VA Clinic expansion groundbreaking on Jan. 12. It was truly a wonderful and momentous occasion for everyone involved. The new VA clinic will bring the necessary care to our area veterans, who have earned and deserve everything we can offer to them. The expanded Greenville will be life-changing for those in need of specialty care.

In November 1994, during a meeting with the VFW, I was asked what I was going to do to get a freestanding VA clinic for the veterans of eastern North Carolina. I, along with countless others, have worked tirelessly to make this happen.

Because of the efforts of people like Dan Hoffman, director of VA Mid Atlantic Health Care Network, Ralph Gigliotti, director of the Durham VA Medical Center, Dr. Paul Cunningham, dean and the senior associate vice chancellor for medical affairs at the Brody School of Medicine, and my colleague Congressman G.K. Butterfield, N.C.-1, this important facility has become a reality.
