To try to stop folks from voting is just plain anti-American. There is no doubt whatsoever about the true intent of these so-called voter I.D. laws. They are designed to keep folks who would normally vote for Democratic Party candidates from having a voice in our democracy. These laws comprise an attack on the essence of our representative democracy.
The policy of the extreme right is quite obviously to try to win elections at any cost. To them, the end justifies the means. They have no compunctions about using any technique that might help their candidates win elections. That’s morally corrupt and just despicable. Those people are at odds with the true spirit of the American constitution — namely: One person, one vote. For shame.
When I was a soldier, I thought I was fighting for freedom and justice for all Americans. That’s the way it should be. That’s the way it must be. It’s time for all real Americans to speak out against these voter-suppression laws. It’s also time for all real Americans to throw out of office the politicians who support these reprehensible laws.

Republicans are all about voter suppression
What the Republicans don't, or won't understand, is that there are folks who don't use an ID to get on a plane, drive or cash a check, etc., but still want to vote; and I refer to millions of senior citizens who don't drive or do those things. We should go back to a day when a voter with no ID can vote with assurance of a second party as to their identity. I think the voter fraud angle is an overblown issue, but with a second party vouching, at least that would keep the very possibility to a minimum without resorting to the voter suppression tactics Republicans are trying to use.
Are you aware...
that those senior citizens you talk about had to have some form of ID to sign up for social security? Don't even try using seniors to argue this. And your idea is great. We just need to have everyone swear that the information they are about to give is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. And that should make the wait in line to vote about 6 hours.
November Election
This November I'm going to vote under the name "James H. Dautremont."
be quick
Only if you beat me to it. Then, I was thinking about voting with my parent's names. (they vote democrat, or at least they did. )
to areyouserious
Those turnout numbers make many people wonder if they were all valid votes.
How is this racial?
How in the world is this getting played as a racial thing? Does the color of your skin really make it harder to get photo id? Another question is, Are Democrats really dependent on the votes of people in our society that don't have ID? As in someone who somehow lives without driving, writing checks, using credit card, or any number of things that takes ID?
I'm thinking maybe it is just those that fear that all those dead people can't get out to vote if we actually ID the people voting.
Ridiculous
It is ridiculous for the Democrats to claim that the poor will be not be able to vote. Most of them most likely receive some type of government aid and in most cases they are required to provide some type of government issued ID in order to receive it.
the
souths long history of going out of its way to include everyone in the political process ....er
wait....that's not right.....um....
gee I just cant see how this would be a bad thing?
sorry I95
This is not a "southern thing" in all 33 states have considered voter ID laws this year. It is impossible for all 33 to be southern states, unless like obama you think there are 57 plus states.
It's funny......
You never heard the clamoring for requiring an ID to vote until afew things happened. We elected our 1st minority president. We had RECORD minority voter turnout.
Hmmmmm! Makes one wonder what the motivation behind requiring an ID to vote really is.
You have a sort memory
Does the word ACORN stir any memories? This has nothing to do with race. This is about my vote meaning as much as your vote. If David Axelrod had not rigged the system, there would be no public outcry; but he did and it was widely reported and now serious people are trying to find a solution.
It does make you wonder....
It makes you wonder how many Democrats have been elected that if people had to show ID would have lost. Wonder how the 2008 elections would have played out if everyone had been required to show ID? And I say Democrats because they seem to be the ones with the issues with fair and honest elections. I have not heard one Republican or one Independent say anything against voter Id requirements.
wrong my friend
voter ID has been discussed for many years.
What?
This has been talked about for years. I was appalled when I moved here to find out that no ID is required at the time of voting. All I do is tell them my name, where I live and then sign a form. I'm sure there is no fraud at all with this stringent process for ensuring the voter is eligible. Heck, I could early vote and then go to my precinct and pretend I am my uncle who is in a nursing home and vote again. Yep, No voter fraud at all in NC.
ludicrous.
This notion that Democrats can't get ID's is ludicrous.
"Democrats can't get ID's"
Maybe it is too dificult a chore for them to do own their own.
what?
For you to believe that Democrats cannot win if they have to show an ID to vote makes a very bold statement. Doesn't sound like you believe too much in ONE PERSON = ONE VOTE. Remember, Republicans would have to show an ID also.
?
?
ACORN... NUF SAID?
It's the democrats my friend that uses ACORN to commit voter fraud. How about Eric Holder dropping the charges on guilty Black Panthers dressed in para-military uniforms carrying clubs to intimidate white voters? Eric Holder said we are a nation of cowards with regard to race and said that the Justrice Dept will not take any voter related cases where the plaintiff is white. That my friend is the true face of racism at the highest offices of our country. NOW WE REALLY NEED CHANGE and we all will watch a REPUBLICAN win the Presidency in 2012!!!
Nice try...
Let's see... Lets not require an ID when stopped for a traffic violation, or when boarding an airline, or cashing a check. That's racist!!!
No where was it mentioned
No where was it mentioned that the policy was racist. Why are you bringing that up?
Why??
Why did the NAACP throw a fit? Because THEY said it was racist.
This is not a new idea
as other states already require voter identification. Those same states elect Republicans and Democrats without any problems. Do we really want any chance of voter fraud on any front? I have been a poll worker for many years and can see the potential for this to happen. Let's make sure our voting procedures is the best it can be.
If..
If the only time I had to show my ID was to vote, I would agree with you 100%. HOWEVER, it is not. ID's are required for various number of things, not just to vote. I do not understand why it is so "reprehensible" to ask someone to show an ID that proves who they are. If it means an honest and fair election, no matter who you are voting for, why is showing an ID so bad? Just how does it keep someone from voting? I don't understand.
understand
You will never understand a liberal........................
