On his flight home from the American Baseball Coaches Association convention in Anaheim, Calif., earlier this month, Billy Godwin said he scratched out about 30 different lineup possibilities for the coming baseball season.
The seventh-year East Carolina head coach has that luxury this year because his club has welcomed the return of almost every starting position player.
It’s the guys on the mound that are largely unrecognizable, striking a sharp contrast between this year’s team — which opens the season Feb. 17 at home against Milwaukee — and last year’s pitching-dominated club.
