The days of college basketball teams playing one type of defense for entire games may not be completely over, but they certainly seem numbered.
Some teams may still play man-to-man or some type of zone variation almost exclusively, but they’re the exception, not the rule in a day and age when offenses have become more intricate and players are continually getting bigger, faster and stronger.
“You can play the same defense, but differently,” ECU coach Jeff Lebo said as his team prepared for tonight’s Conference USA opener at Southern Miss at 8. “Some teams play all zone. Some teams play all man. There are still some of those out there, (but) there’s not many.”
