Amid the shelling the East Carolina football team endured at the hands of No. 9 South Carolina last Saturday, change has emerged.

The Pirates will give sophomore quarterback Shane Carden his first career start this weekend at Southern Miss in the aftermath of ECU’s 48-10 loss to the Gamecocks, a setback in which Carden relieved junior starter Rio Johnson for all but one series of the second half.

The change is due in part to Johnson’s lackluster, three-interception outing against the Gamecocks. Beyond that, it’s because even after Carden was handed the ball to start the third quarter and promptly threw an interception himself, he was able to hold it together, even tossing his first career touchdown pass late in the game.

Carden is the right choice!

Shane looked much more composed then Rio, Rio has always looked rushed and rattled in the pocket and at this point I dont think its something that can be taught...Carden wasnt telegraphing the plays and was looking at the whole field instead of going in with a preconcieved player and trying to force it...also, they both have a great arm but Rio's rocket ship passes with little finesse wont get us through this season and Ruff has to make it a good one because he wants to stick around Greenville......Im excited to see Shane in the game, nothing against Rio but he has been around long enough to have improved beyond what he has looked like in the past 2 games...he'll make an ok backup.

Terrible

idea to put in Shane. We need to let Rio know it's his team and a great way to ruin his confidence is taking him out after a bad day in front of 90,000 fans at a top 10 SEC school. Lincoln is messing up, we need to run the ball more with the stable of backs we have, I mean has Hunter Furr even run the ball? It sure will be tough to keep asking pirate club members for as much $ as they do if we don't start winning some games.
