Coastal Carolina brought a 9-1 record into its men’s basketball game at East Carolina on Monday, but the Chanticleers left with their worst defeat of the season.

The Pirates meanwhile played arguably their best game of the campaign and the result was a 76-51 thumping of the Chants in Minges Coliseum. That type of result against a team of Coastal’s caliber is just what the doctor ordered for ECU (6-4), which won its second consecutive game.

“We got (Coastal) on a good night for us,” Pirate second-year coach Jeff Lebo said. “I’ve got a lot of respect for them; (they) won 28 games last year, 9-1 this year with victories over an SEC and ACC team (LSU and Clemson, respectively). I told our kids that was a terrific win.”
