East Carolina had a last-second shot to send Saturday’s game against Tulsa into overtime, and that alone should give the Pirates a sense of pride considering the way they started the game.

Visiting Tulsa held on to beat ECU 70-67 in Minges Coliseum, dealing the Pirates’ men’s basketball team its third consecutive loss following a five-game winning streak it had put together heading into Conference USA play.

The Golden Hurricane raced out to a 22-4 first half lead and seemed well on its way to a blowout victory before East Carolina clawed its way back into the game, which ended after Maurice Kemp’s 3-point attempt at the final buzzer bounced out.
