CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — For the second straight game, 13th-ranked Virginia's pitching staff coupled with an untimely East Carolina error spelled doom for the Pirates as the Cavaliers won Game 2 of the three-game series, 4-3, Saturday at Davenport Field.
UVa. starter Tyler Wilson (2-0) followed Danny Hultzen's Friday performance with a 10-strikeout effort, allowing three runs on seven hits with no walks in 6 1/3 innings. Branden Kline registered his third save after fanning a pair in one inning of relief.
With Virginia trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth, the Cavaliers (6-0) scored three runs on two hits and an error to take a 4-2 advantage and never looked back.
