There was plenty of methodology behind the seemingly erratic rotation of quarterbacks in East Carolina's spring football scrimmage on Saturday, though the theory is not necessarily for public consumption.
As is the case with every play at every position in all spring games, the choice of who was taking snaps in the annual Purple-Gold scrimmage inside Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium was driven chiefly by what goes on behind the scenes and not on the playing field.
Simply put, head coach Ruffin McNeill and offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Lincoln Riley want plenty of video to watch for the rest of the spring and summer and maybe more important, they want more game film for the players themselves to watch.
