East Carolina and UAB both struggled to hit jump shots during Sunday’s women’s basketball game in Minges Coliseum, so the Blazers found another way to score.
Despite going 9-of-50 from the field, UAB got a 44-39 victory thanks to its 21-of-26 effort from the free throw line. ECU attempted five three throws — all in the first half — while the Blazers went 17-of-20 from the charity stripe in the game’s final 20 minutes.
ECU, which was dealt its sixth straight loss, trailed 36-35 with 6 minutes, 50 seconds remaining, but the Pirates missed their next eight shots and the Blazers seized control.
