The East Carolina football team will be putting a good deal of faith into a couple of very promising freshman wide receivers when it takes on No. 12 South Carolina next weekend, mainly because the Pirates have no choice.
Both of the inside slot positions will be manned by first-time starters, and although that would be somewhat unnerving to many coaching staffs, these two freshmen are both brimming with confidence.
On one side, true freshman Danny Webster will make his big splash playing in place of senior Michael Bowman, who will serve a one-game suspension for the Pirates' Sept. 3 season opener against the Gamecocks because of an off-the-field incident this summer. On the other side, redshirt freshman Justin Hardy will try to fill the big shoes of 6-foot-8 sophomore Justin Jones, who has been shelved indefinitely after a knee injury suffered in last Saturday's scrimmage.
