Talented, experienced and deep are words not often used to describe East Carolina’s men’s basketball team, but all three apply this season and that has lifted expectations to heights rarely seen.
Almost all of last season’s squad is back for ECU, which held its annual media day in Minges Coliseum on Friday, and five seniors — two of them four-year guys — dot the roster. Third-year coach Jeff Lebo and the Pirates did lose forward Darrius Morrow, one of the best players in school history who exhausted his eligibility and is playing professionally in Turkey.
However, the pool of talent Lebo can draw from has never been deeper and if things come together the way the Pirates hope, they’re almost certainly capable of producing the second 20-win season in program history. The only time ECU has won 20 games was when the 1953-54 club finished 23-2.
