East Carolina football’s quest for a big finish to the season meets its first potential roadblock today in New Orleans.

The 6-4 Pirates, already bowl eligible, square off with 2-8 Tulane inside the Mercedes-Benz Superdome at 3:30 p.m. EST. A victory over the struggling Green Wave would already mark ECU’s best season under third-year head coach Ruffin McNeill, but the Pirates are in line for even more than that.

At 5-1 in Conference USA, ECU is still alive in the league title race, though the Pirates will need some help. East Division leader UCF takes on West Division top dog Tulsa today, and the second-place Pirates not only need a Golden Hurricane win but also a UAB win over the Knights next week, as UCF holds a tiebreaker over the Pirates after beating them in early October.
