Return has Ray's confidence brimming

Kickoff return touchdowns are some of football’s most unpredictable moments, and are comprised of dozens of split-second decisions combining to create one masterpiece.

East Carolina’s Lance Ray said returns like his thrilling 90-yard touchdown last weekend against Appalachian State happen mostly in a blur, except for one detail that appears in perfect detail.


“It happens so fast, you don’t recognize anybody, but you always recognize the kicker,” said Ray, who bounced through a couple of tackles and spun out of another before putting a move on App State kicker Sam Martin and running through the block of teammate Cody Lyon into open space. “He’s always the last one to spoil everything.”
