The East Carolina women’s basketball team closed its nonconference slate on Monday night in disappointing fashion, being routed at Hampton by a count of 76-48.

The trio of Jericka Jenkins (game-high 25 points, 10 assists), Alyssa Bennett (18 pts.) and Keiara Avant (14 pts., game-high 10 rebounds) sizzled from the opening tip en route to a 41-25 halftime lead, and the host Pirates shot 48 percent from the floor for the game.

The visiting Pirates (6-7) played without junior guard and leading scorer Shala Hodges, who made the trip to Virginia but was later suspended by head coach Heather Macy in the wake of Hodges’ DWI arrest early Sunday morning.
