When Seth Maness is feeling as dominant as he was on Friday night, fans can't afford to be late getting to the ballpark.
The East Carolina senior right-hander carved through Pepperdine in a masterful performance at Clark-LeClair Stadium that lasted less than two hours. The 2-0 shutout victory for the Pirates (6-2) had Maness' signature all over it, as he riddled the Waves to two hits — one in the second inning and one in the ninth.
Sandwiched in between those hits were a career-high 11 strikeouts by the Pinehurst product. He also talked his way into staying on the mound with two outs in the ninth when Pepperdine got its first baserunner in 18 at-bats with a single and then put the potential tying run on the bases by way of Maness' lone walk of the game.
