When asked to describe his play this season for the East Carolina men’s basketball team, Miguel Paul chose the term “mediocre.” Paul’s numbers tell a different story.

The 6-foot-1 junior point guard has been electric since donning a Pirate uniform for the first time on Nov. 11 in a home win against Milligan. Paul, who transferred to ECU from Missouri and sat out last season per NCAA rules, led all players with 19 points and eight assists that night, and he hasn’t slowed down since.

But Paul’s full-speed ahead approach might be part of the reason he said his effort this campaign has been only so-so. His coach certainly seems to feel that way.
