Former East Carolina quarterback Patrick Pinkney received a 12-month deferred sentence this week for embezzling money from his former Roanoke Rapids employer.
Pinkney — who guided the Pirates through perhaps their most remarkable football era — will have his record wiped clean if he avoids any further legal indiscretion in the next year, according to reports in the wake of Pinkney’s scheduled court appearance on Wednesday.
The Fayetteville native who was under center for ECU’s consecutive Conference USA championships in 2008 and ’09 was accused of embezzling nearly $4,200 while working as an assistant manager at the Belk Department Store in Roanoke Rapids.
