Pirate offense struggles in loss to UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Alabama-Birmingham pitcher Dillon Napoleon is not a small man, but he made East Carolina's baseball team feel that way in Friday's game between the Conference USA foes.

Napoleon, a 6-foot-4, 200-pound junior right-hander, outdueled ECU ace Seth Maness to lead UAB to a 4-1 victory over the Pirates in the first of a three-game series at Young Memorial Field. Napoleon's complete game effort featured just four Pirate hits and he struck out five while walking two.

Maness was in decent form as well despite taking the loss. The senior from Pinehurst gave up four runs — two earned — on eight hits with six strikeouts and three walks in eight innings of work
