The East Carolina women’s basketball team came into Sunday needing a break, but Conference USA contender Memphis had only another tough one to offer the Pirates.

Despite rebounding well against the Tigers, the Pirates continued to struggle in controlling their own destiny at the offensive end, shooting 37 percent from the floor and losing their 11th consecutive game, 69-56.

“You can’t dig a hole when you play against teams like this because they have such good players who can generate their own shots,” ECU head coach Heather Macy said. “That’s what they did. When they needed a bucket when we cut into the lead, they would get into some isolation situations and they stepped up.”
