BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A suffocating run to end the first half helped the East Carolina men’s basketball team fend off a furious late rally by host Alabama-Birmingham and halt a six-game losing streak in Conference USA on Saturday night.

The Pirates found their shooting touch from the outside early, providing a complement to the inside game of senior post man Darrius Morrow, and ECU (10-10 overall, 1-6 C-USA) beat UAB to the finish line, 73-66, despite the Blazers’ late comeback at Bartow Arena.

Morrow fouled out of the game late, but not before bagging a game-best 24 points to go along with six rebounds.
