Rarely does winning come at the cost of such great stress.

The East Carolina baseball team battled back from 2-0 down against Rutgers on Friday night to force extra innings after a two-out, bottom-of-the-ninth inning home run by freshman Ben Fultz tied the score at 2-2. Then the Pirates mustered enough offense to manufacture one last run and win for the eighth time in nine games, 3-2, in 11 innings.

With the bases loaded and two out in the bottom of the 11th, Chris Gosik chopped a weak grounder toward the mound, and Scarlet Knights reliever Joe Esposito could not get a handle on the ball to make a play to any base, allowing John Wooten to race home and win the game for ECU.
