Pirates look to stop Navy's option

Playing the Navy football team, especially late in the season, is a tedious process.

The Midshipmen are set to sail into town on Saturday for their fourth-ever game against East Carolina, and the Pirates and head coach Ruffin McNeill have long since learned that defending the option properly isn’t something a team can expect to accomplish in a mere matter of days.


That learning process began in a 76-35 drubbing against Navy the last time the teams played in Greenville in 2010. It was blistering proof that it’s easy to start getting clobbered by the Midshipmen blockers and difficult to stop it once it starts.
