Ruffin McNeill is past the point of feeling the need to watch every down of every college football game in the country, especially on a Saturday when his team played the previous Thursday.

That's why when Southern Miss scored a huge win over Conference USA East Division leader Central Florida over the weekend, the first-year East Carolina coach was not watching.

“Somebody texted me,” McNeill said of learning about Southern Miss' 31-21 upset of UCF, which helped the Pirates' hopes for playing in a third straight C-USA title game at season's end. “I don't watch much football unless the East Carolina Pirates are playing. I was watching reruns of ‘CSI Miami'. But somebody texted me and that was good.”
