CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Junior Mike Wright worked a career-best seven innings on Sunday afternoon and Mike Ussery drove in three runs as East Carolina defeated 13th-ranked and previously unbeaten Virginia, 4-3, at Davenport Field.
Making his second start of the season, Wright carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before UVa.'s Chris Taylor singled to left field to start the frame. The 6-foot-5 Wright allowed two runs — one earned — on five hits with four strikeouts to run his record to 2-0.
Ussery's bases-clearing double to center field highlighted a four-run second inning for the Pirates (4-2).
