Pirates shut down Knights

East Carolina's batters created some rare breathing room on Saturday afternoon, and the Pirates' pitchers did the rest again.

ECU took down Rutgers, 5-0, on the second day of the Keith LeClair Classic, and while baseballs still aren't leaving the park very often for the Pirates this season, the team is learning that a five-run cushion is usually more than enough.


Junior right-hander Mike Wright threw seven shutout innings and left the mound with a 4-0 lead in tow before Jake Harris and Mike Anderson came out of the bullpen and kept the Scarlet Knights scoreless the rest of the way.
