One-run wins are becoming the defining characteristic for the East Carolina baseball team.
The Pirates claimed their third consecutive victory by just a single tally on Friday night, a 4-3 edging of Monmouth on the opening day of the eighth annual Keith LeClair Classic, giving the Pirates (10-3) six one-run triumphs this season.
“We're winning, and that's it,” said ECU head coach Billy Godwin, whose team squandered an early 3-0 lead. “We've got to have a little bit of a sense of urgency. We're up 3-0, and we've got to deliver a knockout blow. We can't keep putting it all on our pitching. Our offense has got to get better and step up.”
