Pirates, Waves split doubleheader

Wasting little time, East Carolina catcher Zach Wright found his head coach, Billy Godwin, immediately after a 7-4 Pirate victory to cap a doubleheader against Pepperdine at Clark-LeClair Stadium on Saturday.

Wright tried to give Godwin the game ball for winning his 200th game as the Pirates' coach, but the skipper quietly declined the offer.


“I guess it means I've been here a long time,” said a modest Godwin, who, after being prodded by chants of his name, celebrated with fans in “The Jungle” behind the left field fence.
