CLEMSON, S.C. — Unlike East Carolina's previous two opponents, Clemson didn't need any late game heroics to beat the Pirates on Wednesday.

After losing two consecutive games in heartbreaking fashion in the final seconds, the Pirates fell behind by double digits late in the first half, but rallied to get within three in the second before the Tigers regained control to finish ECU off, 71-59, in Littlejohn Coliseum.

In a second half that wasn't much more than a free throw shooting contest, Pirate guard Jontae Sherrod knocked down a pair from the charity stripe with 13 minutes, 20 seconds left to play that cut Clemson's lead to 45-42.
