As expected, highly-touted Florida defensive back Lucas Thompson verbally committed to the East Carolina football team on Thursday night during the Under Armour All-America Game at Tropicana Field in Tampa, Fla. During the first quarter, the safety out of West Orange High School in Winter Garden, Fla., donned an ECU cap to signify his allegiance to the Pirates for next season.
The Under Armour game brings together some of the nation’s elite scholastic talent, and Thompson might have given the 2012 ECU recruiting class a shot in the arm with his national television commitment.
Also on the 6-foot-1, 185-pound Thompson’s list of finalists are Miami, South Carolina and Louisville. Thompson, who visited ECU in October, told the Orlando Sentinel his nod for ECU would be “firm but not 100 percent.”
