Billy Godwin and the rest of the East Carolina baseball coaching staff are getting close to having a starting lineup ready for Friday’s season opener against Virginia, but there are some position battles in the infield that may not be completely decided until later this week.

Shortstop is not one of them, as Jack Reinheimer has been a standout this preseason and is expected to be a leader for the Pirates.

Reinheimer is one of two ECU players on the preseason All-Conference USA team. The other is Drew Reynolds, who is the team’s closer and could see action at first base.
