ORLANDO, Fla. — Central Florida overturned an early but commanding East Carolina lead on Thursday night, scoring on eight straight possessions from the first quarter to the finish line en route to a 40-20 Conference USA win inside Bright House Networks Stadium.

The Knights (3-2, 1-0 C-USA) claimed the critical C-USA clash with a couple of long touchdowns by wide receiver/returner Quincy McDuffie and a defense that steadily turned up the heat on quarterback Shane Carden and the ECU offense.

The Pirates (3-3, 2-1) did not score another touchdown after getting a pair in the first quarter and briefly taking a 14-0 edge.

Sad decision by Ruffin

The decision at the end of the game ,with two minutes left, to PUNT the ball on 4th down , losing 40 to 20 , should give the pirate nation pause if we have the right leadership at the helm. At no time should this team give up on scoring a touchdown during a game and we should always fight to the end. This was a terrible decision , not only from a fundamental football strategy basis but from a "teaching moment " perspective. Ruffin, you are either running scared or have lost your sense of "teaching" the players. Hail Mary passes were in order ( see Green Bay and Seattle), especially since we had success with long passes, but we limped in with poor runs and a punt and looked puny and stupid. Sad decision by ECU coaching staff. I was ashamed for our football players.

Agree as we show we run scared

Ruffin needs to rethink his strategy even though when losing. Bring back the likes of Steve Logan and Skip Holtz who would fight to the end regardless of the scoreboard. Pirates are headed to the plank this year I am afraid.
