A-G girls take conference crown

CALYPSO — Ayden-Grifton’s girls’ basketball team won the Carolina Conference title with a 35-39 win over top-seed Goldsboro in the championship game Friday at North Duplin.

The Chargers (12-10) begin the 1-A state playoffs on Monday when they host James Kenan.

In the boys’ championship game, Ayden-Grifton lost to Goldsboro, 60-49.

GCA loses in semis

WALKERTOWN — Greenville Christian Academy’s girls’ basketball team lost in the semifinals of the state playoffs Friday, 49-39, against Wilson Christian.

GCA (14-11) will play host Gospel Light today in the third-place game.
