NEW BERN — The J.H. Rose football team lost its third straight game in a 28-14 setback at New Bern on Friday.
After trailing 21-7 at halftime, Jamal Satchell cut into the Bears' lead with a 17-yard touchdown run with 6:53 remaining in the game. Satchell was playing quarterback at that point, after starting QB Marquis Gorham was injured in the second quarter. Gorham did not return to the game and was already the third starting quarterback for the Rampants this season after two other starters were injured earlier in the year.
New Bern (4-7, 2-3 Mideastern) answered Satchell's score and sealed the game on a 35-yard touchdown run from J.R. Williams. It was Williams' second touchdown in the game, as he put New Bern on top 21-7 before halftime with a 2-yard TD run.
J.H. Rose (6-5, 2-3) finished the regular season in a tie for third place in its conference.
Prior to getting hurt Friday night, Gorham tossed an 11-yard touchdown pass to Tyreke Moore with 10:16 remaining in the second quarter to make it 14-7 NB.
New Bern got two early scores to lead 14-0 after the first quarter.
