While the big baseball names were preparing for Game 3 of the World Series on Saturday, some local stars came out for the J.H. Rose Anchor Club's Halloween Home Run Derby at Guy Smith Stadium.
East Carolina players Kyle Roller and Devin Harris, as well as several current and former local high school standouts, either watched or participated in the event, which featured competition in seven different categories.
Former J.H. Rose Rampant Clark Massey won the College division while current Rose slugger Chase McDonald, an ECU commit, finished second.
JHR graduate Josh Aldridge took first in the Has Beens competition, followed by David Forbes.
Paul Hill won the Dads division with Greg Steele finishing second, and Lucas Harrison edged Charlie Herring for first in the 18 and under bracket.
Other winners were: 12U — J.D. Clark (first) and Wes Hill; 14U — Jehneil House and Aaron Clark; 16U — Evan Crew and Chris Hill.
Proceeds from the Derby benefit the Children's Miracle Network.

It is a great event. However, speaking from past experience, if you can't hit Ronald, you can't hit anybody. LOL

Allie S. and the girls of JH Rose Anchor Club are to be commended. This is a fine example of student leadership and community service. Enough good cannot be said about these girls. The event was fun, and they raised lots of money for local charity.
