Lauren Frazier's run at a state tennis championship came to an end in the semifinals of the 4-A singles tournament Saturday in Raleigh.
R.J. Reynolds' Chloe Willetts defeated Frazier, J.H. Rose's top-seeded player, 6-3, 6-4. Willetts went on to win the singles title after beating Myers Park's Grace Baker, the defending state champ, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
Rose's season isn't over. The Rampants host Hoggard in a dual team playoff match on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Rose cross country
J.H. Rose's Esther Fisher qualified for the 4-A state cross country meet after taking 12th place in the Eastern Regional race Saturday at Hope Mills South View.
Frazier led the Rampants to a 13th-place finish in the girls' meet, clocking in with a time of 19 minutes, 48 seconds. Lexie Schustrom of Pinecrest won the girls' race in 18:38.
Tommy Houmard led the Rose boys with a 32nd-place finish in a time of 17:25. The Rampant boys took 17th place.
Terry Sanford's Chase Christianson took first place in the boys' meet with a time of 15:45.
The state meet is scheduled for next Saturday in Winston-Salem.
Conley soccer
D.H. Conley's boys' soccer team wrapped up second place in the Coastal Conference after defeating West Carteret, 3-2, in a tiebreaker match in Morehead City on Saturday.
Takechika Kamogawa scored a goal and Francis Paye had a pair of goals and an assist for the Vikings (10-9-3, 10-4-1 Coastal), who will find out Monday when and where they'll play in the postseason.

Congratulations to Lauran Frazier for making it to the state semis in Tennis.The community should be proud of her accomplishments.
