College of Business awards scholarships

Friday, May 23, 2008

The College of Business at East Carolina University recently awarded scholarships to eight students from Greenville, honoring their outstanding achievements.

Honored were:

Jenna Lindsay — David A. and Pamela S. Bond Access Scholarship.

Ashley Gwaltney — Margery W. and R. Roy Pearce Scholarship.

Amber Gill — Commerce Club Scholarship.

Joel Stocks — Independent Insurance Agents of N.C. Scholarship.

LeAnn Walker — James W. and Anne H. Nordan Scholarship.

Lindsay Dellana — Raymond and Martha Jones/AMA Scholarship.

Dianne Saieed — Commerce Club Book Scholarship.

Lauren Webster — Credit Professionals International Scholarship.

The students were recognized at the 2008 College of Business Scholarship Awards Banquet on April 29, when the College of Business honored 96 undergraduate and graduate scholarship recipients. The scholarship amounts totaled $120,000 for the 2008-09 academic year, almost doubling last year's sum of $65,000.

"These scholarships reflect the generosity of our alumni, faculty and friends — they have shared their success so that others can succeed," Frederick Niswander, dean of the College of Business, said. "The awards also celebrate those individuals who have accomplished high academic achievement, with the expectation that they will continue to lead and inspire future generations."

Scholarships are generated from endowments and funds designed to assist students enrolled in the ECU College of Business. Award recipients are selected annually by the College of Business Scholarship Committee.

The College of Business at East Carolina University, founded in 1936, has been continuously accredited by the AACSB since 1967. The college continues to grow substantially and has more than 2,600 undergraduate students, 710 graduate students, 110 faculty members, as well as 30 degrees, majors and concentrations.
