Pitt hosting Special Olympics today

0 Comments | Leave a Comment

Three Pitt County sites will combine to play host to the Special Olympics North Carolina Basketball Tournament today, with winners advancing to a state tournament.

As many as 31 teams will converge on the area to play games in both 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 formats, including a team from Pitt County in both divisions. Games will be played at North Pitt High School, the Boys & Girls Club off of Belvoir Highway and Eppes Recreation Center.

“We definitely enjoy hosting the tournament because we have teams from across North Carolina coming and we want to show them hospitality and show them our program here in Pitt County,” said Deirtra Crandol, the specialized recreation supervisor for Greenville Recreation and Parks. “Hosting it numerous years, it’s always fun to get the community involved and let them know we have a great program here, not only for athletes but for other people with special needs. We want people to know that we have that program right here in Pitt County.”
