When it’s time for the U.S. Open, you can probably bet that a Greenville man will be right in the middle of things.
Oh, he doesn’t wield a club, tote a bag and few fans would even recognize him. He’s a member of the staff of the United States Golf Association and has been one of its lead men, setting things up, doing his job and then hustling on to his next assignment.
“To think that a boy from Greenville has been as lucky as I’ve been, it’s amazing,” said Hank Thompson. “It’s a great job. I move every two years. I never thought I would have lived in Pittsburgh, on Long Island, in the D.C. area and now I’m in Philadelphia. I’ve been very lucky.”
