Roanoke Country Club in Williamston has put some new pricing into effect during the “winter” months. (With that said in quotes, it’ll snow next week.) The club will charge only $16 for 18 holes with cart on Saturdays after 12:30 p.m.
Roanoke is also making plans for a couple of its annual events. Its member/guest will be June 1-3, while its member/member will be Aug. 18-19.
Wade Poorman scored a hole-in-one on Jan. 22 at Ayden Golf and Country Club — and thus becomes eligible for the CGA drawing. He used a 6-iron on the ninth hole while playing with Brian Phelps, Charlie Nobles, Chris Street and Miguel Hernandez.
Ayden will hold its annual two-day Jack and Jill Tournament on June 2-3. Applications will be sent out on March 1. For more information on the event, call Wilbur Perry at 746-3389, ext. 1.
Keith Leblanc and Carl Augustson captured the first Brook Valley Men’s Golf Association event of the new year after shooting a 64. A three-way tie resulted for second place. The tournament was dubbed, before play, as the “Frost Bite Open,” and the weather lived up to that expectation.
The MGA will hold its annual Super Bowl Tournament today with a 12:30 start time. The format will be a two-man Stableford and golfers may select their partners.
The Brook Valley Match Play Club Championship will kick off on March 1. There will be four different flights for the event. The deadline for sign-ups will be Feb. 29.
Cypress Landing
Kerry Miller picked up the first hole-in-one of the year at Cypress Landing. He posted his ace on the 15th hole, hitting an 8-iron from 129 yards. He was playing with Wally Stein, Howard Pope and Cliff McFarland. The ace was Miller’s first.
The team of Josh Aaron, Scott Tarcy and Brad Sikes captured first low gross at 61 in a three-man superball at Ironwood.
Second place went to Dave Hunt, Steve Sherman and Bill Schulte, who finished with a 63, while Brad Amerson, Steve Mosley and Chris Gauquie finished third with a 66.
Ed Hobby, Bill Burnett and Mark Jungers won low net (62). Aaron Kennedy, John Conway and Georgia White took second with a 65 while Tom Parkin, Derek Perry and Greg Roman tied with Richard Sigmon, Chuck Hager and Al Powell with each team shooting 68. Thirteen teams participated.
Ironwood will hold a Tournament of Champions for its members. The event will take place on a date to be announced. Members must accumulate 20 points to be eligible. Five points each will be awarded for play in the member/guest, the member/member, and the Club Championship. Two points will be given for playing in the monthly member tournament, and one point each for play in each men’s night, ladies night and couples night. Also qualifying will be the flight winners in the first three events listed above, the net and gross winners in the monthly tournaments, and the winners in superballs, best balls and Texas scrambles.
