Information on transportation services available in the Greenville and Pitt County area.

CITY BUSES

The Greenville Area Transit system, or GREAT, provides bus service for the city of Greenville from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. There is no service on Sunday or certain city holidays. The main transfer point for all routes is at Third and Reade streets.

Route 1: Public Works, Kearney Park, Kmart, Greenville Mall, Social Security Administration, Smythwyck, Hyde Drive, Red Banks and Arlington, South Park, Target, Evans & Howell, Tenth & Evans.

Route 2: Moyewood, Brody Medical, Hospital, Stanton Square, Spring Forest Road, Physician’s East, ViQuest, Greenpointe, Dubber-Laney Woods, Alcohol Rehabilitation Center on N.C. 43 West, County Office Building, West Fifth Street.

Route 3: Sheppard Library, Piggly Wiggly, Arlington & Hooker, Wal-Mart, Employment Security Commission, Sears, Pitt Community College, Greenville Grande, Kristin Drive.

Route 4: River Park North, Flora Mobile Home Park, Pitt County Social Services/Health Department, Westwood Mobile Home Park, Bernstein Center, Oak Grove, West Moore Street.

Route 5: Eppes Middle School, Peppermint Park, 14th & Greenville Blvd., Teen Center, Greenville Mall, Cherry Court Apartments, Food Lion, Eastgate Apartments, Foxhaven Drive, Pirates Cove, Hastings Ford, Cypress Gardens Apartments, First & Meade streets.

Route 6: Hospital, W.H. Smith, Dickinson Avenue, Frontgate Drive, Mall Drive, Pitt Community College, Wal-Mart, Carver Library.

Fares: Regular rate is $1. Transfers are free. Multi-ride passes are available from bus drivers or at Public Works, 1500 Beatty St. Each paying adult may bring two children under 44 inches for a free ride. Those 65 and older and disabled passengers may ride for 50 cents if they pay $3 for a GREAT reduced fare ID card. A Medicare card is sufficient documentation to obtain that card and the half-price fare.

All GREAT buses feature bicycle racks through the bus system’s “Bike to Bus” program.

All buses are equipped with lifts and have space for two wheelchair riders. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) paratransit service is provided in the GREAT service area when curb-to-curb transportation is required because of disability.

OTHER BUSES

Greyhound provides scheduled intercity bus service to the Greenville terminal located at Jolly Roger, 405 E. 14th St., 27834. Phone: 752-3483. Operation Hours: Monday-Sunday: 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., 4:30-6:30 p.m., closed holidays.

East Carolina University Student Transit Authority (ECUSTA) provides transit service to ECU students, faculty and staff. Free service is provided to, from and around the ECU campus, off-campus housing areas and several shopping areas. A valid ECU One Card is needed to ride. For up-to-date bus information, dial ECU-BUS1 or 328-2871.

PITT AREA TRANSIT 
SYSTEM

PATS provides curb-to-curb transportation services for rural residents of Pitt County and human service agency clients. Hours of operation are 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday and 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. No Sunday service. Closed on county holidays.

Phone: 902-2002 for scheduling and rates. Transportation arrangements must be made between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the prior business day, Monday through Friday. There is one fixed route: Bethel at U.S. 64 Alternate and Latham Road on Monday, Wednesday and Friday with first pick-up at 8:15 a.m.
