Charlene Evans, a math teacher at Plymouth High School and Teacher of the Year for Washington County Schools, was selected as the Northeast Region Teacher of the Year for 2013-14 and will now compete for the honor of North Carolina Teacher of the Year.
A team from the Department of Public Instruction and Washington County Schools surprised Evans with the award on Dec. 13.
“We are very proud of Ms. Evans and her work with students at Plymouth High,” Joe Davis, superintendent of Washington County Schools, said. “She is an exemplary educator who believes all children can learn and embraces instructional strategies that meet the needs of her students. Her recognition at the regional level is an honor to our entire school district.”
